India plans 62 vessels in FY2026–27 with
`51,383 cr investment

ndia is accelerating its push
for Atmanirbhar shipping
with plans to add 62 vessels
in FY2026–27 through an invest-
ment of `51,383 crore, creating
2.85 million GT capacity. At a
high-level meeting chaired by
Union Minister Sarbananda
Sonowal, o昀케cials reviewed the
Strait of Hormuz situation and
India’s maritime preparedness.
Sonowal stressed expanding the
national 昀氀eet, including container
ships, LPG and crude carriers,
tankers, dredging vessels, and
green tugs, to strengthen trade
resilience. The meeting also
reviewed a proposed joint venture
between Shipping Corporation
of India and oil PSUs to acquire
59 vessels, while emphasising
seafarer safety, stronger port
infrastructure, and coordinated
action to make India a globally
competitive maritime nation.
AISATS, Samsung SDS sign MoU to boost cargo
operations at Noida International Airport

(AISATS) has signed a MoU with
Samsung SDS to strengthen air
cargo operations and streamline high-value
electronics shipments at Noida International
Airport. The MoU establishes a framework
to improve cargo handling processes and
develop an e昀케cient export channel, particularly for electronics, via the airport’s
upcoming facilities. Under the partnership,
both companies will provide integrated air
cargo and logistics solutions. The AISATS
cargo terminal, with an initial capacity of 255,000
tonnes annually, will serve as a hub for northern
India’s manufacturing exports. The collaboration

and vaccines, it enhances distribution efficiency and proximity
to key customers. Compliant
with the company’s HealthChain
quality standard, Hyderabad joins
Bengaluru as Kuehne+Nagel’s
second HealthChain-certified
Indian facility.

launched its first containerised pig iron rake from
Hubballi, Karnataka to Ludhiana,
Punjab, marking a milestone
in India’s multimodal freight
system. The inaugural movement
from MAKU railway siding was
executed with South Western
Railway, TCI CONCOR Multimodal Logistics, SLR Metallics,
and MSPL AHB. The service
enhances long-haul connectivity
between southern manufacturing hubs and northern markets,
o昀昀ering industries a cost-e昀케cient,
reliable, and eco-friendly transport option. The new service is
expected to strengthen Hubballi’s
emerging logistics role, reduce
road dependency, and promote
rail-based bulk commodity
movement to improve 昀椀rst-mile
and last-mile integration. The
initiative also aligns with PM
Gati Shakti’s push for integrated
multimodal logistics.
AL Shipping has officially
named its latest Super B-Class
Amultipurpose
heavy-lift vessel,
AAL Mumbai, marking another
milestone in the company’s ongoing fleet expansion programme.
Named after Mumbai, the 32,000
DWT vessel reflects AAL’s
growing focus on the Indian
market amid rising demand
from infrastructure, energy
and offshore renewable sectors
for specialised heavy-lift and
project cargo transportation. The
newbuild incorporates several
technical enhancements, including upgraded crane capabilities
of up to 400 tonnes each and a
combined lifting capacity of 800
tonnes. The addition takes AAL’s
Super B-Class fleet strength to
eight vessels, with two more
scheduled for delivery in 2028.
