TRANSFORMATION
Long-term policy frameworks
are increasingly translating
into operational shifts across
ports, cargo gateways, and
multimodal trade corridors.
With initiatives such as Maritime India Vision 2030, Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision
2047, Sagarmala, PM Gati Shakti, and the National
Logistics Policy (NLP) collectively targeting infrastructure
expansion, process e昀케ciency, coastal connectivity, and
logistics integration, the country’s port ecosystem is
gradually moving toward a more competitive and
globally aligned operating environment.

India’s maritime logistics industry transformation
is increasingly being shaped by the convergence
of policy execution, smart port modernisation,
multimodal infrastructure expansion, inland
freight connectivity, and digitally integrated trade
ecosystems. From the operational evolution of
gateway terminals and transshipment capabilities to the strengthening of Dedicated Freight
Corridors (DFCs), multimodal logistics parks, and
hinterland connectivity frameworks, the
ecosystem is steadily moving toward greater
scale, predictability, and coordination. Curated by
Upamanyu Borah, this feature story examines
how India’s maritime ambitions are being reinforced across multiple interconnected layers of
the ecosystem, as it explores how India is aligning
infrastructure, technology, connectivity, and
policy continuity to reinforce its positioning within
the evolving global trade and maritime order.
