“At BSV, every movement across the supply chain
is guided by science, precision, and trust, because
efficiency is not just about speed, but about protecting
lives with every shipment. A fully digital procurement
ecosystem and collaborative 3PL partnerships ensure
end-to-end visibility, compliance, and sustainability.
Further, integrated SAP-driven workflows are helping
streamline financial processes while empowering
teams with greater transparency and control.”
space during transportation. To overcome
this challenge, we introduced an innovative
honeycomb packaging model, designed with
a corrugated structure containing multiple
built-in pockets. This con昀椀guration o昀昀ers
both strength and cushioning, reducing
the risk of breakage while optimising space
utilisation.
With this new design, we can now pack
around more vials in a single honeycomb
unit, cutting overall shipping volume.
What once required full container space
now 昀椀ts within just 40% of that capacity.
This simple yet impactful innovation has
delivered measurable gains in packaging
e昀케ciency and logistics cost optimisation,
all while maintaining the highest standards
of product integrity and safety.
The 3PL Partnership Model
When it comes to logistics, BSV’s operations
rely entirely on Third-Party Logistics (3PL)
partners, each engagement following a clearly
de昀椀ned and closely monitored framework.
While the logistics model is third-party
in structure, our approach to quality management is deeply collaborative. Maintaining
temperature integrity is a shared responsibility between us and our partners. To reinforce
this, we have formal quality contracts that
clearly de昀椀ne acceptable temperature ranges
and operational standards as per our SOPs.
For risk mitigation, all consignments
are insured, though it is a matter of pride
that in all these years, we have never had
to raise a claim, thanks to the diligence and
reliability of our partners.
Layers of Assurance
When working with airlines, any new
packaging solution or logistics lane must
receive formal approval from the respective airline. For instance, if one vendor is
already approved with Air India and we
plan to onboard another vendor with a new
packaging design, that vendor must also
obtain separate approval from the airline.
This process is essential because the
ownership of product quality transitions
to our logistics partner once the shipment
is handed over. Hence, it becomes their
responsibility to ensure full compliance with
the airline’s standards and requirements.
These multi-layered approval protocols
act as safeguards, e昀昀ectively minimising
operational and quality risks throughout
the transportation process.
Turning Data into Advantage
On the commercial front, BSV has adopted
several best industry practices such as price
benchmarking and availability benchmarking. We actively track market trends and
pricing through specialised portals and
analytical tools that provide valuable insights,
some of which are subscription-based.
These help us stay informed about pricing
movements, upcoming product launches,
and next-generation versions of existing
products.
Alongside, our close supplier network
and regular market interactions keep
us updated on emerging developments.
This integrated approach enables us to
continuously monitor both commercial
competitiveness and technical advancements.
Driving Efficiency Through Digital
Transformation
We recognised that several of our processes
could be automated to enhance e昀케ciency,
accuracy, and transparency. To achieve this,
BSV partnered with SAP to implement an
integrated digital framework covering the
entire work昀氀ow, from the RFx process to
invoice and payment management. This
end-to-end transformation has not only
optimised operations but also reduced
manual intervention, ensuring faster and
more reliable execution. What is most
rewarding is that this digital shift has not
replaced people — it has empowered them.
Collaboration as the Lifeline of
Supply Chain Resilience
During the pandemic crisis, BSV adopted
a cooperation model with its logistics
and packaging partners, a relationship
built on trust, transparency, and shared
responsibility rather than pro昀椀t-sharing.
The understanding was simple: we succeed
together in serving patients.
We extended full support across all
stages — development, quality, and regulatory compliance, including lane validations
for temperature-controlled vehicles within
and outside India, and customised packaging
innovations to meet end-customer needs.
Commercially, we introduced a transparent cost-sheet model, ensuring fairness
even when variables such as fuel prices
昀氀uctuated. We also invested in training and
capability building, empowering partner
teams to handle sensitive materials safely,
even under crisis conditions.
Sustainable Logistics That Deliver
Efficiency and Impact
We have adopted several practical measures
to enhance sustainability. For instance, we
select right-sized vehicles for each consignment, avoiding the use of 40-feet trucks
for smaller loads. We are also exploring
compartmentalised logistics solutions, where
a single temperature-controlled vehicle can
be divided into multiple chambers to carry
consignments from di昀昀erent companies.
Another sustainable initiative we have
implemented effectively is the milk-run
model. Under this system, a single vehicle
makes multiple stops, picking up or delivering consignments across various Bharat
Serums locations. This allows us to handle
昀椀ve to six consignments in one trip, maximising e昀케ciency while signi昀椀cantly reducing
carbon emissions.
Overall, the focus is clear — to make
our logistics model smarter, faster, and
greener, without compromising on product
integrity or compliance.
