Maersk to invest US$5 billion in
India’s ports and logistics

P Moller Maersk plans
to invest US$5 billion in
India’s ports, terminals,
and landside infrastructure. The
investment will focus on expanding Pipavav Terminal, developing
a container terminal at Vadhavan
Port, and enhancing logistics
services. Maersk has earmarked
funds for Vadhavan, pending
the bidding process, while
Pipavav’s dredging project will
begin immediately. The company
aims to reduce logistics costs
by integrating transportation,
port handling, warehousing,
and distribution. Maersk is also
expanding its warehousing and
supply chain services to support India’s growing trade. The
company recently discussed these
plans with PM Narendra Modi.

position. Gadkari also stressed
the adoption of sustainable, ecofriendly technologies, positioning
India as a future logistics powerhouse while promoting economic
growth and green infrastructure.

traffic congestion and pollution

Port to strengthen regional trade
under its Act East Policy.
Indian warehousing and logistics sector
surges 203% in 2024: Vestian
I
ndia’s warehousing and logistics sector secured US$1.96
billion in investments in 2024, accounting for 29% of
total real estate investments, as per Vestian’s report.
Investment in昀氀ows surged 203% YoY, driven by the
quick commerce boom, leading to a record absorption
of 44.9 mn sq ft (19% growth). Mumbai led with 18.6
mn sq ft, while Pune saw an 85% rise. 3PL companies
dominated with 33% absorption, and engineering &
manufacturing rose to 24%, fueled by PLI and ‘Make
in India’ initiatives. Government mega infrastructure
projects and strong investor sentiment are set to further
boost the sector’s growth.
