gateways provides complete logistics intelligence,
which helps brands achieve customer satisfaction and
scalability.” With such an enhanced level of foresight,
companies can optimise their operations and maintain a
high level of service, even during times of high demand.
Logistics in Focus: Catalysing
Change in the Domestic
Ecosystem
India’s logistics sector is undergoing rapid growth and
transformation. According to Mehra, “In 2024, India's
logistics market was valued at US$317.3 billion and is
projected to reachUS$484 billion by 2029, growing at
a CAGR of 8.8%.”
Apparently, this surge in the sector’s value is primarily fuelled by innovations in technology, the exponential
growth of e-commerce, and a concerted e昀昀ort towards
green and sustainable practices.
More profoundly, Baheti notes that India’s logistics
industry is on the brink of transformation, driven by
government initiatives like the GatiShakti scheme.
However, he points out that ine昀케ciencies persist—India’s
logistics costs stand at 14% of GDP, compared to 8% in
advanced economies. “To bridge this gap and compete
globally, Indian players must adopt technology at scale,”
Baheti observes.
Further, highlights that green logistics is gaining
momentum, with Indian companies exploring Electric
Vehicle (EV) fleets and renewable energy-powered
warehouses. But, “the challenge,” he says, “lies in scaling
these initiatives while keeping costs competitive—
a balance the industry must strike to truly make a
meaningful impact.”
Technology is playing a pivotal role in reshaping
India’s logistics landscape, Mehra annotates, and adds,
“India’s logistics sector is transforming with a focus
on innovation and sustainability,” he says, and adds,
“Companies are leveraging AI, IoT, and green practices
like EVs to enhance e昀케ciency and meet environmental
targets. Additionally, with IoT’s growing presence in India,
the market is expected to reach US$49.82 billion by 2029,
further solidifying its role in the logistics revolution.”
Collaborations within the logistics
ecosystem allow shared expertise,
resources, and technology to enhance
operational efficiency. For example,
partnerships between logistics platforms
and fleet operators streamline last-mile
delivery, improve route optimisation,
and expand service coverage. ClickPost
combines AI-driven carrier allocation,
high-accuracy delay prediction, and real-time tracking to automate
operations and enhance decision-making. Our features like automated
Non-Delivery Report (NDR) management, appointment-based delivery
monitoring, and self-serve returns portals help reduce manual effort
and enhance efficiency across the entire supply chain.
Despite these advancements, India’s logistics sector faces several challenges, particularly related to
infrastructure gaps, workforce training, and regulatory
hurdles. However, Mehra is optimistic that collaboration with global partners and further technological
advancements will continue to drive progress toward
a more sustainable and e昀케cient future.
Vijay spotlights the critical role of India’s e-commerce
market, which is projected to grow from US$59 billion
in 2022 to US$300 billion by 2030, de昀椀ning it is a major
driver of change in the logistics ecosystem. “With such
rapid growth in e-commerce, logistics providers are
embracing Third-Party Logistics (3PL) models, which
o昀昀er scalable solutions for managing complex supply
chains,” he states.
Vijay believes that India’s logistics sector is on the
verge of transformative growth. “Innovations in 3PL
and e昀昀orts to digitise supply chains are making Indian
players more competitive on the global stage,” he adds.
A key aspect of India’s logistics transformation is
the inclusive adoption of technology and the e昀昀orts to
ensure that Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs)
bene昀椀t from these advancements. By democratising
access to digital tools, Indian logistics 昀椀rms are fostering
an environment where smaller players can compete
on a global scale, improving the overall resilience of
the sector.
Sustainability is also taking centre stage and helping
build resilience within the logistics ecosystem. As India
continues to tackle climate change and environmental
concerns, the logistics sector’s focus on green technologies
and eco-friendly practices will contribute to a more
sustainable and future-proof industry. This drive
toward sustainability will be crucial not only for meeting
regulatory requirements but also for responding to
the growing consumer demand for greener products
and services.
As Vijay notes, “The focus on inclusive tech adoption
and sustainability is driving a meaningful impact,
fostering resilience and e昀케ciency in the ecosystem.”
