he logistics industry, a linchpin of
the global economy, faces unprecedented challenges as cyber-attacks
increasingly disrupt its operations.
As digital transformation accelerates, introducing automation, IoT
integration, and data-driven systems,
it has simultaneously expanded the
industry’s vulnerability to cyber threats. In 2024,
ransomware attacks and data breaches were among
the leading threats, with the global cost of cybercrime
expected to surpass US$10.5 trillion annually by 2025,
up from US$8.4 trillion in 2022.
A Rapidly Escalating Threat
The frequency of ransomware attacks in logistics has
surged. Between July 2023 and July 2024 alone, there
were 27 publicly reported incidents, making logistics
the second most targeted industry after manufacturing.
These attacks, exploiting the sector’s reliance on digital
networks and data, have had far-reaching impacts. For
example, ransomware attacks have directly impacted
freight operations, port authorities, and Third-Party
