Leading the Charge in Logistics
Transformation
Ayesha Katgara, Head of Corporate Strategy at
Jeena & Company, reflects on the transformative
strides India’s logistics and transport sectors have made
in recent years. She states, “The year 2024 has been
nothing but transformative for the logistics sector. It
has been de昀椀ned by evolving customer expectations,
the rise of e-commerce, enhanced digitalisation, and a
growing focus on sustainability.” These changes align
with India’s broader green transport goals, showcasing
how targeted investments and digital innovations are
shaping a more sustainable future.
Katgara further underscores the significance of
policy frameworks in accelerating India’s transition
to a sustainable and efficient transport and logistics
ecosystem. “India has taken initial steps towards creating
a conducive environment for the sector to thrive in the
long term,” she asserts, pointing to government-led
initiatives as cornerstones of this transformation. The
PM GatiShakti initiative, a game-changer for multimodal
connectivity, has been pivotal in decongesting supply
chain bottlenecks by facilitating seamless integration
across rail, road, and waterways.
The construction of 8,891 km of roads and 27,000
km of railway lines, as part of these initiatives, exempli昀椀es the government’s commitment to infrastructural
advancement. Katgara emphasises how such measures
have empowered logistics players to signi昀椀cantly reduce
operational ine昀케ciencies, enhance cost optimisation, and
improve service reliability. By creating a synchronised
network of robust infrastructure and digital capabilities,
these policies have also contributed to reducing emissions
and fostering a greener supply chain. “These initiatives
are vital stepping stones not only for operational excellence but also for achieving broader environmental and
economic goals,” Katgara concludes.
